It's official....the media circus has found its new darling.....the aussie race attacks, lovingly nicknamed - 'Curry Bashing' (Apparently, the world thinks we are the only country that makes curries).
The newspapers, TV channels on their prime time are flooded with stomach churning images and videos of helpless students being beaten by a gang of bullies or hospitalised in total agony. All this, i agree, makes me angry....very angry!!
But hang on a second, isn't that what they are after. The circus of media. To get me angry, to get a reaction out of me...which says "F**k these aussies" and to think of it...that's what i litreally want to do....i would want to beat up every australian i can find in my sight and seek revenge from him for a crime he did not commit and i did not bear.
Allow me to clarify myself.
The moment the word 'Aussie attacks' or 'curry bashing' is mentioned in our vicinity, our mind is flooded by violent images that have been provided to us by the vigilant newspapers and TV channels and makes us cry out in sheer anger. Quite frankly, the media is our eyes to what's happening there. We see what they want to show us. And we see it in the exact packaging they want to show us in.
I am sure most people would concurr the media is doing a great job of showing whats happening there....of bringing the whole scene on the world stage for people to watch. They'd even say that this reporting will help the indians to get their justice there.
I disagree!! (Not entirely though!)
Let's keep the rage aside for just a second and ponder over the situation. In my opinion, the media fire has to stop. And by media fire, i very specifically mean the sensationalisation of news. We need reporting, of course we do!! But we can surely do without the sensational headlines and provocative scripts. TRPs are generated, circulation of newspapers is increased....but what is the long term effect?? In the hurry to get our justice for the deeds done by a handful of people, why are we accusing the entire ethnic community for it? (Is every australian the same?)
Here's the rub....there are....and this is a fact...there are always and always a handful of idiots, bigots, racists and rednecks in every society. People who have no compassion, remorse or some unfortuante ones who've been victims of some terrible circumstances and events.
I strongly believe racism, favouritism, biased opinions (or any emotional vice) are all inevitable byproducts of human pondering and thought process and always there will be a few who will believe in the superiority of a race or group (almost brutally!)
More imporatantly, before we expect compassion from the rest of the world....look into your own backyard ( I live in delhi and see a few idiots treating people from north east in a way that makes me tighten my fist and throw a punch at him).
My entire point is that the mindless race for TRPs and higher circulation converts every morsel of news into a theatrical performance. And once again, a long term hatred and opinion is manufactured to achieve a short term target and this long term hatred can never be good for Indians staying there.
The media has created a brand name now...'curry bashing'. It's like an investment, a fixed asset. It can be put to use anytime in the future, whenever there is anything that is even remotely connected to the sentiment attached with the concept.
It's very difficult and almost inhuman to expect a lenient view and forgiveness from the people who have suffered these attacks. But for those who haven't...please remember, the earth spins stably by gravity, the humans live and planes fly on air....most things in the universe survive on a very delicate balance aided by things we can't see but only feel.
In case of socities and civilizations.....It's compassion and respect!!
Its necessary to support our kin and people. But let's not be too hasty and gullible to vent our anger on the targets which are fabricated and not real. Only the gulity should be punished!
